Bots and Kamas

By [Flatops] - ANKAMA - March 15, 2017, 17:00:00

Why are there bots in DOFUS Touch and how do we fight them? Is it legal and secure to buy kamas on the internet? These are a few of the questions that we will discuss in this news.

What is a bot and why are they in DOFUS Touch?

A bot, a contraction of the term "robot", is a program arranged to perform a series of actions. In DOFUS Touch, this involves characters who set up trades and combat different monsters non-stop.

These bots then sell their collected resources in the Market. They will gain kamas that are resold to players for real currency. This is an illegal action for both the buyer and the seller. The bot’s objective is purely monetary. These bots deteriorate the game experience of honest and respectable players.

This practice is indeed illegal, both for the kama seller and its buyer. We invite everyone to make use of the platforms provided by Ankama which are legal and secure: the Market and the Shop.

Who built these bots?

They are mainly designed by companies located mostly abroad, therefore making it very difficult to litigate because of various legal and judicial policies of other countries.

Some players use bots personally in order to get rich, though their Ankama accounts are outright banned once discovered.

It is accurate to say that bots are also propogated  by a few people who use them indirectly. If players do not purchase kamas from them, the bots would not have a reason to exist!

What are the risks in buying and/or selling kamas?

We’d like to stress that this practice is purely illegal and you will experience repercussions.

The Ankama accounts of both bot users and their patrons will definitely be banned once found out.

As a buyer, you also take the risk of being scammed by paying for a purchase that will never be delivered.

How is Ankama fighting bots?

We have different solutions in our arsenal

  • Recruitment of moderators
  • Guest account limitations
  • Limited number of battles and messages per day
  • Spam filters
  • Various measures in the background that are strictly confidential

You can participate in the fight against this menace by reporting bots that you see via our Discord server.

Be part of the fight against bots!

Combating bots are one of our top priorities in the first half of 2017, and we hope that this news will convince you!

Okay I have a ton of questions to discuss.
Firstly how can I become a moderator? No that will apply directly for me but to other people.
Could you guy put your own bots? The economy is unbalanced and it will be good to increment the number of items on the market as well as the destruction of kamas.
What if I know of someone that uses different characters at once? Would that count as using bots? Some of the alt players use a program that allow them to use various characters.
I know selling kamas is illegal and most people buy millions so wouldn't be better to restrict an exchange that is way unrealistic? Per example 5Mk for a Bow meow.
What if I know of someone that sells kamas? Let's say that some guy in my guild is selling kamas at $5 = 1Mk. It is an illicit action but no one will report it because we don't want to lose the help from him, hypothetically speaking.
What about people that is using emulators on PC? Is that allowed?

I have more questions but I will end here for the moment.

"Evtrex88", has a good point, putting a security so that it also prevents somebody selling something to somebody really expensive.

Or not both ways, maybe just cant give large amount of money for small items. But you can sell 1 item for dirt cheap since I know some people give away items.

I'm glad this was released at least. The amount of communication between Anakama and the players on this issue was severely lacking up to this point. I'm also glad they gave us a way to report on the Dofus Touch Discord. That being said..

I still think nothing will be fixed until an in game reporting tool is implemented. I should be able to tap on a character and in the menu, I should see a "Report this player" option. When you click on it, you can specify the type of report and confirm it. If a player receives multiple reports before a mod has a chance to look at them, their chat and exchange ability could be temporarily disabled. Players who are found abusing the reporting option would be banned.

There are just too many factors in my opinion to have underlying check systems to try to differentiate players from bots. At the end of the day, people themselves need to be the ones to actively make their server better. But it's on Ankama's shoulders to give us the means to do so.
